The purpose of this challenge is to use up 100 yards of fabric from your stash. Fabric used is tabulated on finished
projects only. In order for every yard used to be counted in some year, all the fabric used in your project
will count, as long as the project is completed by the end of the year. So, if you have an unfinished project
from years gone by, and you finish it this year, you can count all the fabric used in the project. If you start a project, but only get blocks done, it doesn't count. Projects can be quilts, wallhangings, small
quilted projects. You can also count clothing, fabric bowls, rugs and so on, if they are made using your quilting fabric,
and you finish the project. The idea is to use up your fabric! Although you can give fabric away to lessen your
stash, we won't allow donated fabric to count in your dash...
It is up to you how you want to
calculate the amount of fabric used. The easiest way is to take the width X length of your quilt in inches. Take
this number and divide by 40 to get the number of inches used, then divide by 36 to get yards. Double this number to
account for the backing fabric, and don't forget to mark down the binding used. I know this doesn't allow for
much for seam allowances, but it is simpler. If you have a system you would rather use, feel free. By the way,
if you have one of those quilting calculators you can do this and it will tell you the approximate fabric used in a quilt.
New fabric purchased this year is not stash, so that fabric won't count.
Hints for using lots of yardage.
* UFO's are part way to becoming projects, so they are quick ways to get some yardage used. * Borders, bindings, and especially
backings can use lots of stash quickly. Look at your stash before you go shopping. * Finishes add up faster than just
new starts! There is a database used for keeping track if you choose to use it. I may add to the guidelines, as
questions arise.
